Talking with Cassandra Morris

What will build the audience of teen and 20-something listeners? Stories they relate to, sure, but also voices that connect with those listeners. Cassandra Morris hopes she can be in tune with this audience. A 20-something NYU journalism graduate, Cassandra is intrigued with adolescence and coming-of-age novels. The flexibility of her day job—writing video scripts for educational programming—lets her pursue the passion for acting that began at 14 years old. Her voice-over work brought her to director Paul Ruben's attention as he cast DEAR ZOE by Philip Beard for HighBridge Audio. Her essential connection to the story earned her an Earphones Award for her first audiobook. She's following this success with the high-profile young adult novel ELSEWHERE by Gabrielle Zevin, due to be released by Listening Library in November. Cassandra's interest in audiobooks is fueled by her own listening to other narrators' work. "Listening to other styles and other narrators is the best way to learn," she tells us, "much better than a class."
