Talking with Holter Graham

Holter Graham is an avid reader of science fiction, which surely helps him bring something extra to his performances of the audiobooks in Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark-Hunter series. He's even joined the author on book tour appearances, reading from the books, signing autographs, and posing for pictures. He brings passion to his portrayals of the gods in ACHERON , the twelfth book in the series: "Focusing on the core of each of the main characters, Graham directs the flow of the plot around their raw emotions. He gives the impression of barely being able to hold in their power while also allowing glimpses of their vulnerabilities."--[2008]

Holter Graham recorded his first audiobook in 2004: It was Steven Sherrill's edgy VISITS FROM THE DROWNED GIRL , and it remains one of his favorites. Only a year later, he received his first AudioFile Earphones Award for Lisa Gardner's ALONE . Holter believes audiobooks are a good match for him because both his undergraduate and graduate degrees are in writing, and he feels he has "that extra love for words that goes beyond just liking to say them." He enjoys doing accents, but when he narrated John Berendt's CITY OF FALLING ANGELS , he and the producer/director decided he should give only the lilt of the Venetian dialect to avoid detracting from the story. Holter has recorded two of Stephen Frey's financial thrillers, THE PROTÉGÉ and THE POWER BROKER, and just finished work on the fourth in the series, THE SUCCESSOR. He's an avid reader of sci-fi and mysteries and listens to podcasts and shorter audiobooks, mostly poetry. He's only begun to listen to longer audiobooks. He especially liked Oliver Wyman's reading of A MILLION LITTLE PIECES, and considers Jim Dale an icon.
