Nearly a dozen of James Patterson's Alex Cross thrillers feature Peter Jay Fernandez as the voice of Patterson's crime-solving detective-turned-FBI agent. "I love this guy," Peter told us. "He's a family man." Peter knows the characters of the series well-the family and the investigators and cops. He recalls the voices easily, and this serves him well because the Patterson books are often recorded on a tight schedule to coincide with the hardcover book release. MARY MARY is the latest in the series. While Peter has done his share of gritty thrillers, his recordings of Colson Whitehead's JOHN HENRY DAYS and Ralph Ellison's JUNETEENTH show Peter's skillful vocal portraits and insight into these more literary works. We celebrate two of Peter's audiobooks in this issue: A MAN FINDS HIS WAY and I, DRED SCOTT. Peter has been particularly busy on stage this last year--appearing on Broadway in Denzel Washington's “Julius Caesar” and recently on Washington's Arena Stage in “Cuttin' Up.”
