Breakout actor Reid Emory depends on publicist Jordan Litwright to polish his image, but an unfortunate publicity stunt leaves both of them acting out a modern-day TAMING OF THE SHREW. Brace for a confusing opening scene, which narrator Nick Podehl cannot entirely clarify. Once past that muddle, Amy McFadden and Podehl hypercharge a zany ride filled with practical jokes. Both narrators play up the maniacal maneuverings of Reid’s brother, Max, who steals this audiobook from the romantic couple with his fairy-godmother tricks, prophetic insights, and off-key singing. The two narrators have a similar voice for him, which keeps his verbal mayhem intact across chapters. Podehl’s Reid sounds young and fumbling while McFadden delivers Jordan’s numerous embarrassments with perfect comedic timing. High-quality merriment meets millennial romance. C.A.
