Narrator Jeffrey Kafer is as compelling as he was in the opening installment of this unusual series, THE WORLD BENEATH. Joe Tesla's agoraphobia keeps him permanently indoors, living under Grand Central Station's massive subway system, where he tries to understand a puzzling inheritance. Kafer voices characters well: Tesla, a software genius who develops a personal recognition system; Tesla's bodyguard, Vivian Torres, who is at once warm and fearsome; and Tesla's mother, who is a former trapeze artist, are all entertaining. Listeners will most enjoy meeting Edison, Tesla's support dog, and learning snippets about his mysterious benefactor, Nikola Tesla, particularly how his precious pigeons inspired some of his inventions.
