Roth's book introduces the author's alter ego, Nathan Zuckerman, as a fledgling writer on something of a pilgrimage to the home of a famous author. There, some very interesting things happen. Narrator George Guidall is on top of his game with this book, using his voice to keep the story moving while subtly interpreting Roth's words. (His narration of the central arguments between Nathan and his mother and father is priceless.) Guidall's character voices are understated yet vivid, and when Roth veers from the main story, Guidall is there to make sure we don't get lost. This short book is a tasty treat for Roth fans. Guidall makes it a feast for the ears. R.I.G. (c) AudioFile 2003, Portland, Maine [Published: FEB / MAR 03]
