THE SPELLMAN FILES is a light mystery that is elevated to comic entertainment by Christina Moore. Isabel (Izzy) Spellman is a 28-year-old investigator in her parents' P.I. firm in San Francisco. The business may be functional, but the family? Not so much. Izzy thinks of all her boyfriends as exes prior to the first date; family members spy on each other; teenage sister, Rae, has a hobby of recreational surveillance (spying on random people for fun). Moore portrays Izzy's sardonic attitude with a self-mocking edge in her voice. She creates a cast of entirely appropriate voices for all the quirky characters in this superb production, including a droll tone for Izzy's mother, who won't let her leave the business.
