Seton's engaging gothic romance follows Miranda Wells as she makes the leap from stifling life on a farm to what she imagines will be a much more lively and fulfilling life with her wealthy distant cousin, Nicholas Van Ryn. As an older book (originally published in 1944), the beats of this audiobook are not always those expected by a contemporary listener, so a truly committed narrator is needed to showcase what it is that has managed to stand the test of time.
