Chandler's workmanlike, subtly embellished narration is suitable for Pickett's unflappable persistence as he investigates a mysterious drone that is chasing herds of elk and deer until they drop dead of exhaustion. Pickett partners with the female game warden in the next county, and Chandler gives her a slightly feminine voice while staying true to her no-nonsense personality. Together, they discover deeper trouble when they realize that the destructive drone is connected to a lethal group of villains who are hunting for a man in the Federal Witness Protection Program.
