Narrator Tim Carper presents these seven engaging stories in a soothing voice. In "Comfort and Joy," Carper introduces successful Margaret O'Hara, who simply endures Christmas after the death of her young daughter. Things change when she encounters her stepdaughter, who's dying of AIDS and searching for someone to adopt her 2-year-old daughter. In "911," Carper's compassionate Gloria, an operator, plays Santa to a heartbroken 7-year-old who calls, believing Santa won't visit her impoverished home. Carper's standout is "The Santa Suit," in which reticent 10-year-old Matthew stays with his verbose and opinionated grandpa just before Christmas. Carper beautifully conveys their developing relationship when Matthew volunteers his grumpy grandfather to play Santa for a group of needy kids.
