Narrator Rama Vallury captures the sauciness at the center of this novel, which blends magical realism and the lives of Indian-American young people growing up in Georgia. On the whole, Vallury brings energy and enthusiasm to his portrayals of Neil and Anita, spirited teens who are negotiating the universal challenge of reconciling parental expectations with their own ambitions--but with the added twist of juggling a second culture. At times, Vallury's attempts to authentically present the older generation, particularly female characters, are overly accented.
