Here's some inspiration for anyone teaching or learning a second language. Celebrated British actor Andrew Sachs learned English as his second language after his family escaped from Nazi Germany. Andrew's keen appreciation for written language and command of the spoken word has served him throughout his brilliant career in writing and starring on BBC TV and radio ("Fawlty Towers"), London theater, and film. Acclaimed as Performer of the Year by the British Spoken Word Association in 2000, Andrew uses his versatility in comedy and serious drama in audiobooks. We've highlighted his work in Roald Dahl's memoir BOY and Georges Simenon's MAIGRET SETS A TRAP . In this issue, George Eliot's SILAS MARNER and Brian Moore's THE STATEMENT come to our attention. Andrew told us he most enjoys audiobooks for "the challenge to channel it all through the voice—to make the words do what the heart feels."
