Talking with Nancy Travis

Some actors just get lucky. The offer to read Alice Hoffman's THE ICE QUEEN "just came out of nowhere," Nancy Travis told us. Her agent called saying she wasn't sure whether it was something the busy TV, stage, and film actress might be interested in. "I jumped on it," Nancy said. "Audiobooks are something I've wanted to do—and I love Alice Hoffman." An auspicious start, as Nancy's first audiobook—THE ICE QUEEN—brought her a nomination for Best Female Narrator in this year's Audie Award competition. Was the narration experience as interesting as Nancy expected? "It's easier and more relaxed without makeup and costumes, but the work demands a focused concentration, and you have to pace yourself, listen to yourself, and tell a story." Nancy has taken on another challenge with her second audiobook, INSATIABLE, a memoir by passionate food critic Gael Greene. It's very different from the fiction of her first recording, but as Nancy says, you still have to "cast that spell."--Yearbook
