Theatrical, flamboyant and brilliant, General Douglas MacArthur was revered after he stage-managed Japan's surrender after WWII. He met his Waterloo, however, during the Korean "police action," when he was summarily fired from command for insubordination by President Truman. This fascinating, lively account, including sound bites from the general's speeches, is superbly narrated by Ed Herrmann. Using the same Apollonian approach, another narrator would sound dull, but Herrmann's intelligent, unpretentious tone; flawless, informed reading; and perfect pace exactly complement the well-crafted text.
