Narrator Paul Boehmer brings a rich voice edged with wonder to his performance of this sequel, which combines elements of mystery, adventure, and alternate history. Boehmer's vitality makes even lengthy passages of exposition interesting as listeners enter Max's complicated world. Even though he's busy with his career as a "solutioneer," he's worried about his parents, who may be in danger far away as they pose as the king and queen of a tiny South American country. Boehmer creates subtly distinct voices for each of member of the group of friends that set sail to try to rescue Max's parents. This brainy, fast-paced story will be best enjoyed by those familiar with the first book in this proposed trilogy. A.F. © AudioFile 2015, Portland, Maine [Published: OCTOBER 2015]
