Through narrator Caroline Lennon, listeners go along with Thea Osborne as she carries out her latest house-sitting gig. Lennon imbues the likable Osborne with nosiness--an ideal trait for detectives, whether professional or amateur. The tranquil Cotswold house that is home to a sweet old corgi and a hibernating tortoise acquires a threatening feel after a firebomb is pushed through the letterbox. Osborne quickly concludes that a group of eco-warriors is the likely culprits. In a spirited delivery, Lennon portrays the serious but sometimes misguided group as they put their principles above all else. Osborne's endearing relationship--and detecting--with new boyfriend Drew Slocombe adds a romantic touch. The surprise conclusion is fascinating and satisfying.
