Narrator Susan Bennett's slow, natural voice quietly appeals and perfectly fits this nostalgic glimpse at days gone by in the lovely town of Runnymede, parts of which lie in both Maryland and Pennsylvania. Here, just after the "Great War," several teens' and wealthy matrons' lives interweave, bringing humor, drama, life lessons, and a healthy respect for a more genteel time in America. This is not a plot-driven story but slices of lives that are depicted artfully and that enchant completely. Bennett's characterizations are spot-on. She infuses just the right touch of sophistication, Southern charm, and sarcasm when called for, making this an enjoyable audio dessert.
