BROAD STROKES 15 Women Who Made Art and Made History (in That Order)

by | Read by Tavia Gilbert

Contemporary Culture • 5.5 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2017

In this audiobook, Quinn, an art historian, explores the lives of 15 twentieth-century American female artists such as Lee Krasner and Elaine de Kooning. Some have not been substantially covered in similar biographies. However, there are some disappointments. The print edition is richly illustrated, and references to plates throughout the audiobook fall flat without the images to refer to. Narrator Tavia Gilbert's voice sounds too youthful and modern for some of Quinn's biographical asides, and her upspeak can be distracting. While Gilbert is good at injecting the author's humor into her narration, this work may be better enjoyed in print. C.M.A. © AudioFile 2019, Portland, Maine [Published: APRIL 2019]
