With a silvery smooth voice, narrator Lynnette Freeman conveys the essential message in Jenkins’s Blessings series: The essence of romance is family. This small-town romance, appropriate for teen and adult listeners, is set in Henry Adams, Kansas. Featured characters are single mom Gemma, who cares for two abandoned children she found on the side of the road, and restaurateur Rocky, who copes with the drama of his employees and customers. Freeman nails the dialogue with natural-sounding rhythms and emotions, smoothly producing the voices of the entire town. She drops down into a deeper register for the male characters, like Rocky’s fiancé, Jack, and switches gears with a higher pitch for females, like Gemma’s new daughter, Jasmine. Jenkins and Freeman truly are a blessing. C.A. Winner of AudioFile Earphones Award, 2017 Best Audiobook © AudioFile 2017, Portland, Maine [Published: NOVEMBER 2017]
