Narrator James Patrick Cronin's clear and expressive baritone is a good match to Schaffer's no-nonsense discussion of how to be a great cop. The author is a police detective with many decades of experience who is very confident, almost cocky, in his abilities, insight, and wisdom. Schaffer does well in blending his own life's story with practical ways to conduct police work while also expressing his opinions of contemporary society. No one who listens to this work will have any doubt as to the author's views. Cronin's performance, characterized by a staccato intonation and a matter-of-fact tone, is clear and easy to follow. Overall, this makes for an interesting production. M.T.F. © AudioFile 2018, Portland, Maine [Published: JANUARY 2018]
