THE RIGHT STUFF

Actor Dennis Quaid turns on the Texas charm as he narrates the quintessential nonfiction story of the origin of the nation's space program. Wolfe's narrative focuses on the pilots who tested the theories of supersonic flight. While there's little dramatization, the plot is riveting and still enjoyable after all these years. Quaid has a sure hand with dramatic pacing, emphasizing the material on the hazards of challenging the sound barrier and the men who took those first flights into space. You can hear the real affection Quaid has for the fliers and their wives as he draws on his experience with character development and portraying emotion.
