CHIEF SEATTLE AND THE TOWN THAT TOOK HIS NAME The Change of Worlds for the Native People and Settlers on Puget Sound

by | Read by Arthur Morey

History • 11.75 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2018

This audiobook presents narrator Arthur Morey with a unique set of vocal challenges as its Native American names are daunting. A gifted narrator, he handles the material admirably. Chief Seattle was a member of the Suquamish tribe. The scant written record of his life provided author David M. Buerge with his own challenges. Virtually all the historical material pertaining to the chief is secondary. The author stitched together details of this imposing man who was a fearsome warrior and a late convert to Christianity from history and anthropology. The audiobook portrays the nineteenth-century Northwest unsparingly. Religious zeal and institutionalized racism come under scrutiny, in particular. The many geographical references to today's Emerald City are a bonus. A.D.M. © AudioFile 2018, Portland, Maine [Published: JULY 2018]
