Mechanic Kane Harmon rescues painter Halley Ward from the side of the road. They had known each other in high school. Narrator Angela Dawe brings the listener along as a romance develops between them. Halley is scarred from a traumatic childhood in foster care before she was rescued by a wealthy aunt. Dawe conveys the emotional scars that Halley still bears. The listener will fall in love with Kane as he comes to care for Halley and help her work through her past.
