LUCKY LUNA

With perfectly accented Spanish, narrator Frankie Corzo brings to life 10-year-old Luna's world, including her loving extended Mexican family with its many PRIMAS (cousins). Self-conscious about the white stripe in her hair caused by poliosis, Luna always wears a hat to cover it so the kids at school won't tease her. She is angry that her tattletale cousin, Claudia, is transferring to her class--especially after her mother punishes her for locking Claudia in the bathroom at their cousin's quinceañera. No hats for one month! Luna herself is not always likable, but Corzo effectively voices her selfish immaturity, as well as Claudia's good-girl priggishness.
