In this audiobook, listeners meet James, who is a charming man but no hero. Weak and venial, he's tied to Trish, his delusional, psychopathic wife, and also romantically involved with Laurel, his trashy, crazy mistress who has just borne his daughter. Three gifted and experienced narrators, Teri Schnaubelt, Dan John Miller, and Lauren Ezzo present this flawed novel, each taking a chapter sequentially. Having the voice change for each chapter is confusing. Schnaubelt and Ezzo do a fantastic job of depicting Trish and Laurel but portray James awkwardly. Likewise, Miller gives us a great James but falters on the female roles. Their considerable talents would be better utilized reading characters of their own gender.
