Narrator Joe Barrett portrays San Francisco detective Frost Easton in a good-guy voice. It's the kind of voice you trust and want to spend time with. Frost is in search of the killer of a one-time friend who dies in his arms, whispering the name Lombard. Soon, Frost ventures into a cesspool of wealthy and sinister characters who leave him and listeners in a fog about whom to trust. While Barrett's portrayals of the many secondary characters can miss the mark, as is the case with the mysterious Asian-Indian sisters, listeners will still find this roller- coaster ride to be highly entertaining.
