Narrator Moira Quirk takes listeners on a tour of L.A.'s Chinatown, home of police matron Anna Blanc, in 1908. Anna is either spunky and courageous--or merely annoying and reckless--depending on your point of view. Quirk gives Anna a high-pitched voice and the petulant tone of spoiled child. Nonetheless, Quirk's narration guides listeners through a racially charged environment as Anna solves a baffling murder. Overall, Quirk provides a spirited performance of this well-plotted crime novel. D.L.G. © AudioFile 2019, Portland, Maine [Published: MAY 2019]
