Beck Bennett portrays Babe Ruth in this snapshot of the slugger's life during a brief period when he was a minor league player. The story revolves around Ruth and his roommate, an aspiring player who is the manager's son. Bennett, a veteran of "Saturday Night Live," uses his well-versed comedic cadence for the young and naïve Ruth. We hear a different Ruth here, one who has yet to become jaded. Bennett deftly voices him in an unlikely but appropriate way: simple, likable, and unaware--not the boisterous ballplayer history knows. The humorous story weaves fact and fiction, and Scott Aiello handles brief interludes in an old-fashioned radio voice. M.B. © AudioFile 2019, Portland, Maine [Published: AUGUST 2019]
