Narrator Tim Campbell lends his voice to this historical romance. Former courtesan Clara is close to fulfilling her goal of owning a respectable music hall in the seedier side of London. After rescuing an earl from muggers, neither expects that his political career will obstruct her dreams--or that they'll find mutual love. Campbell provides another pleasant auditory experience, with a narrative style that engages the listener. His clear, rich timbre; skill with accents; and distinct, realistic character voices draw the listener into the story and provide an air of authenticity. While the music at the beginning and end of the audiobook doesn't fit the story, Campbell's performance more than makes up for this slight mismatch.
