It's the 1930s. Listeners join Amory and Milo Ames on their trip to New York City for the wedding of Amory's childhood friend. When one of the groomsmen is murdered, the couple find themselves once again immersed in a mystery. This time they're taken into a world of bootleggers, speakeasies, and gangsters. Narrator Alison Larkin captures the atmosphere of this historical mystery. She especially shines when Amory goes undercover as an American, necessitating an American accent. Larkin succeeds in making this shift without losing any of the authenticity of a well-bred British woman. With a strong pace and good inflections, Larkin makes this audiobook one to appreciate.
