ONE DRUM Stories and Ceremonies for a Planet

by | Read by Christian Baskous

Contemporary Culture • 4 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2019

Christian Baskous's narration is conversational as he explains Ojibway teachings and ceremonies. When Canadian author Richard Wagamese died in 2017, he was working on a book on this topic. He had completed the first three teachings--on humility, courage, and honesty--which he described as being available to anyone anywhere who is seeking connection and wholeness. As Baskous narrates, it's easy to imagine the author is talking to individual listeners, inspiring them to seek harmony and communion with their families, neighborhoods, nations, and the global community, and, ultimately, the planet itself. Baskous is a bit playful when telling the traditional animal stories that illustrate the teachings. He sounds more intense in delivering the reflections from Wagamese's experiences that relate to these teachings and underline their urgency.
