Mozhan Marno gives a warm performance of this hybrid book--partly a translation of poetry by Rumi--the beloved 13th-century Iranian poet--and partly a memoir. The author came to the U.S. as a child with her Iranian parents. Marno recounts Moezzi's personal exploration of Rumi's poems, which seem to cover every aspect of human experience. Marno's warm and measured delivery plays up the author's initial reluctance to take Rumi seriously during her childhood. She makes real for the listener the bond between Moezzi and her father as well as her growing love for the poems. Listeners are immersed in a tender listening experience that gently presents some of the best of the poet's work. M.R. © AudioFile 2020, Portland, Maine [Published: MARCH 2020]
