Christine Kiphart's gentle enunciation and phrasing work wonderfully with this message from a professor of Chinese philosophy that American parents need to connect more with their children, their cultural heritage, and their own relatives and mentors. Kiphart conveys these perspectives as though they were part of her own deeply held beliefs. The author says Western parents are too obsessed with achievement and material wealth to give their "tender sprouts" what they need. With moving stories and imagery, she inspires us to pay attention to the little moments we have with our children.
