ONE TOUGH OUT

Most baseball fans know Rod Carew as one of the game's greatest hitters. Off the field, he has endured his share of tribulations. Ron Butler narrates this first-person account with equal amounts of a calmness that befits Carew's demeanor and restrained energy when his excitement and emotion call for it. An abused child, Carew emigrated from Panama and blossomed on the diamond. In recent years, he has overcome serious health challenges. He kept a fairly quiet demeanor off the field for years, so it's interesting to hear Butler help craft his story now.
