Marguerite Gavin returns to narrate Book 7 in MacLeod's Inspector Anita Sundstrom series. Gavin portrays Anita and the many Swedish and foreign-born characters in a neutral American accent. She successfully differentiates the characters, male and female, by varying her tempo and inflections. For Anita's British love interest, Kevin, Gavin uses a rather unconvincing English accent. This police procedural with its overlay of a government cover-up is built on a true event that to this day is shrouded in mystery, the 1994 sinking of the ferry ESTONIA. Listeners will need to suspend disbelief at times to go along with the twists and turns of the investigation. Those new to the series will find enough backstory to understand the relationships.
