OUR SUBWAY BABY

Peter Mercurio narrates his story of "how one baby found his family in the New York City Subway," a work written to his son. He begins factually, almost flatly, and returns occasionally to this tone as he describes the nonfictional elements of his story such as the various beginnings of other families and the phenomenon of the foster home. These contrast with more emotional moments as Mercurio becomes swept up in remembering aloud to his son. Wonder fills his voice as he recounts the moment his partner, Danny, found the baby. He tenderly recalls the caring judge who united the family with the words "Where there is love anything is possible."
