Author/narrator Jehan Casinader, a New Zealand television journalist, describes the way that news reporters talk as bizarre with their nasal tones, odd inflections, and singsong rhythms. Nonetheless, Casinader narrates this memoir of depression in that style, and it does take a little getting used to. Being a television reporter is central to Casinader's story, and his performance is so authentic and honest, and his story so important, that it all adds up to an enjoyable audio experience. Casinader was winning journalistic honors in his 20s but then plunged into a profound depression. He tried meditation, medication, yoga, counseling, and relaxation, but nothing seemed to help until he decided to rewrite his own story with a character, history, and a plot.
