Achilles Clazay appears to be a successful salesman in 1980s France. In reality, he is a feared serial killer whose victims are the "canvas" for his "art." As Achilles tells his own story, narrator Peter Noble does a superb job bringing to life the conflicting facets of his character. Noble injects just the right amount of incredulity into Achilles's voice when he realizes a copycat killer has entered the picture. Noble gives the impression Achilles is speaking intimately to the listener, creating additional suspense when Achilles questions whether the listener will be his next "canvas." This novel has been well translated from French, and Noble's authentic-sounding pronunciation of French names helps set the scene for a tantalizing listen.
