Stewart purports to focus on Washington's political development, but, in fact, his biography includes a well-researched birth-to-death reconstruction of Washington's life. It's a listening experience that touches directly on our own concerns about political leadership. Narrator Arthur Morey's narration is immaculate. In particular, his steady pacing is sensitive to the many imponderables in Washington's biography; for instance, his relationship with Martha Custis Washington, his wife.
