The best audiobooks succeed when narrators such as George Guidall perform so exceptionally that listeners can visualize every moment. Such is the case with the latest Marcus Ryker thriller, in which the U.S. operative finds himself one of three captives held by a group of bloodthirsty Hezbollah special forces. The longer Ryker and his prominent companions are held, the more likely it is that the conflict between Israel and Lebanon will ignite. Guidall's performance is flawless, particularly in the way he captures the tones, accents, and brutality of Ryker's captors. Guidall is equally adept at depicting intimate moments among some of Ryker's rescuers, resulting in an audiobook that satisfies listeners on all levels. D.J.S.
