Kevin Bacon lends an entertaining narration style to this contemporary horror novella. Judge Hermon Calvert, at 88 years old, loses his beloved wife. He retires to his lake house to sort out his life without her. Soon, the Judge notices that strange vines are destroying the trees he planted and cared for with his wife. So he sets out to destroy the vines and save the trees. Bacon portrays Judge Calvert in a clear, smooth voice that will captivate listeners. Bacon's ability to portray the stages of the man's grief is extraordinary, and his performance will elicit listeners' empathy. His depictions of the supporting characters are also strong.
