Ben Allen leads a talented cast of narrators in this novel about a couple's confounding adventures on a magical train. Aboard THE LUCKY DAY, Otto and Xavier Shin's honeymoon morphs into a surprising journey full of mysterious people and strange events. Though the scenes are often bizarre, Allen's narration is delightfully familiar. He voices Otto's meandering thoughts in an assured, unobtrusive tone. There's both tenderness and exasperation in Otto's conversations with Xavier, and a startled yet excited curiosity creeps into his voice whenever he's confronted with a new bit of magic. Short sections read by additional narrators bring the supporting characters to life.
