This initial installment in a series has archaeologist Leah Andrews and climber Jack Hobson on the trail of a potentially significant discovery under the ice in Antarctica. Narrator Pamela Almand does more than simply alter tones; she creates accents for everyone involved and varies the pace of how they speak. The best voice is that of a little girl who speaks Navajo. The listener can hear how frightened she is with every word she speaks, which is appropriate since she has been frozen via cryonics for years. The story focuses on an action-packed, riveting race to understand what lies beneath the ice, and the government is interested as well. Almand brings emotional intensity to the mystery.
