Those feeling down about summer's end may enjoy extending the season with this beachy listen. Narrators Dorothy Dillingham Blue, Catherine Taber, and Cassandra Campbell take turns portraying three "trophy wives" whose lives intersect in an exclusive neighborhood. Each performer brings a soapy energy as deliveries range from gossipy and confiding to dramatic and over-the-top. The voices suit the characters well. Conversations are well defined and create distinct voices brimming with the concerns of each character. As the plot twists around ambition and betrayal, murder and power struggles, there is some uneven development of the pacing, especially in the closing pages. Overall, though, the narrators' performances make this a page-turner. L.B.F. © AudioFile 2021, Portland, Maine [Published: SEPTEMBER 2021]
