AFTER COOLING On Freon, Global Warming, and the Terrible Cost of Comfort

by | Read by Eric Dean Wilson

Contemporary Culture • 16.75 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2021

This audiobook is about the dangers of artificial cooling. In a nervous, conspiratorial tone, author/narrator Eric Dean Wilson starts with a personal story about witnessing a shady deal. He was tagging along on a covert purchase of freon--a banned refrigerant--by eco-warriors who buy CFCs (chlorofluorocarbons) for the purpose of destroying them. Going back in time, Wilson recounts how people first thought air-conditioning would never catch on. He waxes philosophical as he explores the concept of comfort and describes how people shifted from viewing air-conditioning as a luxury to seeing it as a necessity. With his voice becoming more dramatic, he points to the ozone hole and other environmental destruction and pleads with listeners to consider the uneven effects of global warming on people worldwide.
