Narrator Mark Sanderlin uses an enthusiastic tone to draw listeners into the exciting discovery of the Ashfall Fossil Beds in Nebraska, which hold information about the ancient animals that lived there 12 million years ago. Sanderline chronicles the process of digging up the fossils that were buried in ash from a supervolcano, emphasizing the tremendous amount of work scientists did to carefully research the past. Interesting discoveries, such as now extinct animals and animal behaviors, are highlighted throughout. Sadly, some of Sanderlin's pauses seem a bit awkward and distract from the adventure at times. Still, listeners will be intrigued by this unique journey into a world long forgotten. M.D. © AudioFile 2021, Portland, Maine [Published: OCTOBER 2021]
