The first in a series, this Swedish thriller starts with a body and connects it to a tortured history discovered through the sleuthing of young PI Eira Sjodin. Hillary Huber ably narrates, though with less drama than the plot--and the listener--deserve. But Eira comes through as a sympathetic investigator who wants to uncover what happened to Sven Hagström and to the man who discovered his body, his son, Olof, a convicted rapist who has been gone for 20 years. She juggles multiple current and cold cases while dealing with her mother's dementia, her disillusionment with her senior officers, and dissembling on the part of varied persons of interest.
