Narrator Gill Mills relies heavily on her years in BBC broadcasting as she brings gravitas to this work of speculative fiction, which merges THE MATRIX with George Orwell's 1984. Good speculative fiction relies on believability, and Mills has that in spades. She delivers the third- person point of view as though it comes from a history text. She handles the complex technical language as though it refers to real technology that everyone understands. And her character work is where she really shows off her special gifts. Her humans are distinct, and when she is asked to create some AIs, she makes them robotic in tone with just enough humanity filtered in to make them seem real.
