In a podcast format well suited to audio, the incomparable Stephen Fry gathers together familiar and little-known facts about those irrepressible Edwardians. A companion piece to his delightful exploration of VICTORIAN SECRETS, Fry's Edwardian collection is presented in 12 lively episodes. With voice actors taking the roles of historians and other experts, there are revelations about Edward VII's enormous appetites, fourteen-course meals, a "celebrity chef's" recipe for quail pudding, and morbidly obese aristocrats (as seen in museum period costumes). Always sounding a bit mischievous, Fry presents lesser-known facts, including those on Edwardian sexual appetites, the beginnings of cinema, suffragettes, crime, and the lives of Black Edwardians. While we could wish for more from Fry himself, this is fun and fascinating listening. S.J.H. © AudioFile 2021, Portland, Maine [Published: OCTOBER 2021]
