ORPHANS OF THE STORM

by | Read by Celia Imrie

Fiction • 14.75 hrs. • Unabridged • © 2021

The orphans of this audiobook are victims of no ordinary storm. Indeed, the sinking of the TITANIC is at the heart of this novel loosely based on the true story of two French children who endured that historic event under mysterious circumstances. For the most part, Celia Imrie is a capable narrator who voices characters with reasonable distinction and lovely accents. However, some voices leap into conspicuously comical zones, distracting from the plot as they strive for over-the-top drama. The audiobook is well produced, but the story itself tends to drag despite its compelling topic. Happily, a behind-the-scenes chapter is included, which is both concise and fascinating. Learning about the inspiration for the novel brings the performance to an interesting close. L.B.F. © AudioFile 2022, Portland, Maine [Published: FEBRUARY 2022]
